Conservatory for old vine varieties

The Conservatoire is a "garden" of heirloom grape varieties once used to produce wines in the Saint-Pourçain region, planted in the late 1990s on the grounds of Château de Chareil.

Located on the hillside adjacent to the Château de Chareil, the Conservatoire offers visitors the opportunity to explore, across one hectare, the ancient grape varieties once used in the wines of the Saint-Pourçain region. Its objectives are to preserve the plant material once grown in the region, to carry on traditional vineyard management practices, and to serve as an ideal platform for recounting the prestigious history of the Saint-Pourçain vineyards. Signage provides visitors with additional information. A red wine and a white wine are produced each year and can be tasted and purchased on site (by appointment) or at Clos de Breuilly in Cesset. - Conservatoire White (50% Trésallier + 50% blend of 9 other grape varieties) - Conservatoire Red (25% Pinot + 75% Gamay) The Conservatoire is managed by a nonprofit organization under the 1901 law. You can become a member for an annual fee of €20, which gives you access to events organized by the Conservatoire as well as a special rate for purchasing the Conservatoire’s wines.
